If you've been researching non-surgical body contouring, you've almost certainly come across CoolSculpting. It's one of the most recognized names in the space, and it's been around long enough that most people in Southwest Florida have at least heard of it.
CryoLean 360 is newer to many people — but it's not newer technology. And for clients at our Fort Myers, Naples, and Sarasota locations who've asked us directly, "what's the difference?" — this article is the honest answer.
What They Have in Common
Both treatments are built on the same foundational science: cryolipolysis.
Cryolipolysis is the use of controlled cold to selectively target fat cells. Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the surrounding skin and muscle tissue — at the right temperature, they crystallize and begin to break down naturally while everything around them is unaffected. The body then processes and eliminates those cells gradually over the following weeks.
Neither treatment is surgical. Neither requires anesthesia or significant downtime. Both are designed to address localized, stubborn fat deposits in specific areas — not to replace healthy habits or produce dramatic full-body changes.
The science underneath both treatments is the same. What differs is how each system applies that science.
Where CryoLean 360 and CoolSculpting Diverge
Technology: One Tool vs. Two
This is the most significant difference.
CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis alone — controlled cold applied to the target area. That's the entirety of the treatment mechanism.
CryoLean 360 combines cryolipolysis with pulse shockwave therapy in a single session. The cold targets and crystallizes the fat cells. The shockwave therapy simultaneously stimulates circulation and lymphatic activity in the treated area, helping the body recognize and flush out those affected cells more efficiently.
Think of it this way: the cold does the work of disrupting the fat cells. The shockwave helps the body clear the result more completely. These two mechanisms working together in one session produce a more comprehensive treatment than cold alone.
Applicator Design: Fixed vs. 360
CoolSculpting uses fixed applicators that are placed on one side of the treatment area at a time. The angle and positioning are relatively static.
CryoLean 360's name reflects its approach: the applicator is designed to treat the full circumference of the target area rather than a single plane. This means more consistent contact, more even temperature distribution, and more complete coverage across the treatment area — particularly relevant for areas like the abdomen, thighs, and flanks where the fat isn't just on one surface.
Treatment Area Flexibility
CoolSculpting has specific applicators designed for specific body areas, and the range of areas it can effectively treat is more defined.
CryoLean 360 is designed with greater versatility — it can be adapted to treat a wider range of areas, including smaller or more contoured zones that fixed applicators can struggle to reach effectively. For clients with specific concerns in areas outside the standard zones, this flexibility matters.
Session Experience
Both treatments are non-invasive and require no downtime.
During a CoolSculpting session, most clients experience intense cold, some pulling from the suction mechanism, and often temporary numbness in the treated area. The suction applicator design can cause some discomfort for some clients.
During a CryoLean 360 session, clients typically describe a cooling sensation and gentle pressure. The experience is generally well-tolerated with less reported discomfort from the applicator itself.
Why We Use CryoLean 360
We're transparent about this: we chose CryoLean 360 for our Fort Myers, Naples, and Sarasota clients because the combination of cryolipolysis and pulse shockwave therapy in a single session gives us more to work with. We believe it produces better and more consistent results than cold alone — and it's the technology we stand behind.
That said, we're not here to dismiss CoolSculpting. It's an established treatment with a long track record. People have had real results with it.
Our position is simply this: if you're going to invest in a body contouring treatment, a two-mechanism approach that combines the same foundational science with additional circulatory support is a stronger option. That's why we offer CryoLean and not CoolSculpting.
What Both Treatments Cannot Do
It's worth being direct about this, because it matters regardless of which treatment you're considering.
Neither CryoLean 360 nor CoolSculpting is a weight-loss solution. They're body contouring tools — designed to address localized, resistant fat deposits in specific areas. They work best when used by people who are already at or near a healthy weight and have a specific area that hasn't responded to their existing habits.
They are not a substitute for diet, exercise, or overall health management. They are tools for a specific, targeted problem.
The clients who see the best results at our Southwest Florida locations are the ones who come in with realistic expectations: a specific area they want to address, a clear understanding that results develop over 6–12 weeks, and a commitment to maintaining their overall health going forward.
